Capturing images on Andy's gear

I feel humbled that Andy would let me use his impressive rig then include me in his reel. Cool! Thanks dude!!

I really enjoyed the gimbal stabilisation and the mirror less Canon. Turned out it was set on slow mo.

That's me on the left of centre in front of the stage.

Seed Soaring with Jazz Master by Alex Reece

We stopped under the massive viaduct and over the road this amazing sight! I've never seen seeds flying sideways for minutes on end, they just kept on coming. It was so beautiful.

Realisation 101.01

My email replies are now slower than my snail mail ones were. Oh.

Scoby wasn't sure he got the right end of the stick when they said "bring a plate!"

A mediocre attempt at humour. Hope it made you smile :)

Scoby aka "symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast" on a plate with a rubber band. Each week I take some of the liquid the the Scoby lives in and replace it with sweet tea. In exchange for tea and sugar they give me a rich drink that replenishes my gut flora and tastes amazing (aka kombucha).

The by product of this wonderful symbiosis is that each week the scoby grows too and eventually starts eating so much the tea turns to vinegar too quickly so a cull is required. You could say she's a mother of an eater! With a very long heritage of successful breeders. I've found the vinegar is great in dressings as as a hair rinse, makes my hair all soft and lovely. Remarkable!

This photo is a couple of culls from my jars as well as a small bottle that didn't get air tight on the second (usually anaerobic ferment) and made it's own teeny scoby. Flopped out onto a plate ready for the compost or the neighbours chooks I noticed a face.

The rubber band was around as it holds material over the jar mouth during the first (aerobic) ferment in the cupboard.

Brag update

Just had two exciting contacts via Flickr YAY! The first ...

"I'm reaching out with Committee Films, a television production company located in Minneapolis, MN.
We love the photo titled "Mend it" and are wondering if we could use it on the program? "
We are searching for photos of Sashiko Mending to be featured in an upcoming program of ours that will air on Discovery+ and HGTV.

How exciting! Hope that one pans out :)

The second via comment on the pic below:

"I so love this poem! I'm running some creative sessions to support mental health for students here in Scotland still in lockdown--can I share it?"

I'm humbled and so happy to share.

Weaving Life

Episodes intertwine

Lessons learned

Over again

Free sometimes

Yet trapped

Ingrained ways

Practice required

Presence held

This moment

Every moment

It’s hard

I fall

But up

I get

Here now

Old ways

Die hard.

Resurrect themselves

I fight

please retreat

old thoughts

Underlying constructs

I must

Break through

Find happiness

right here.

It’s me

Just me

At one

With everything

Well trying

At least

To be

A collection of pet and animal photos

If you like animals please check out some photos of mine I put together for a job application. I just hope I get noticed as there are so many people out there looking for this kind of job.

Update: had a Zoom interview then an in person interview but never heard back. Pretty rude of them but seems that is the way these days. I didn't like the conditions they were proposing (here work your ass off in a windowless building for 12 hours 3 days in a row for an undisclosed amount of money). I knew as soon as they said that, that it would be difficult for me to maintain the outlook I need to take great photos for that period of time. I probably showed this in my body language!!

Such a little treasure she flitted in, hung around a while then was off again.

Her downy feathers caught the light
as they floated gently around her like a little puffy cloud.
When she turned, her yellowy-white bib was quite clear
the distinctive neck line where her feathers turn dark.
As she flew away her tail showed off two sets of white feathers
with dark ones either side. What a little treasure!
Ka kite! Nga mihi nui.

Yesterday I ventured high into the forest behind my house. I was sitting still when a little fluttering caught my peripheral vision. A baby miromiro (tomtit) landed on a branch quite close to me. I wondered if this fledgling had ever encountered a human before! We checked each other out. Such a rare and sweet encounter, I felt very blessed. No more tripping around for a while except maybe to the forest with a better camera!

Edit: months later an adult miromiro visited the garden ... link to story on Flickr here: Miromiro on Flickr

Sky Waka Journey

Thanks to my awesome Mum I spent much of Sunday on a train trip to National Park then a fantastic ride on the Sky Waka before lunch in the clouds. What a cool trip! Here's a sped up clip from up the Sky Waka. Woo hoo!
